I did this the old fashion way - VHS Video Camera and video editing console. Then it was played over the building video delivery system. That was in the 90's in Kentucky. I'm very interested in learning how to do announcements with current equipment.

Tim, I'm also a fan of Boinx TV, I picked it up last year in the latest Mac Bundle for $40.00 that alone made it worth it, but 11 other apps came along too. Here is my review... http://cyber-kap.blogspot.com/2009/04/boinx-tv.html

While not as user friendly as Wirecast it is wayyyyy less expensive for those on a tight budget. Plus, the addition of specific themes is nice.

Okay, I found the COOLEST inexpensive program for producing video news:

Boinx TV

This awesome program will turn your Mac into an ALMOST full fledged production studio.

Check it out!

Here are pics of the setup I used to run in our old Studio.

Room 1 - Studio Pic (shooting against green screen, wired/wireless/shotgun (ceiling) mic, and professional lighting (not seen here)

Pic 2 - Control Room (wirecast in use)

Pic 3 - Control Room (Computer hooked to injector/channel filter displaying on monitor - final product)

Pic 4 - Classroom (what everyone sees on their TV)

My only question about using an internet based site to broadcast video is the bandwidth involved. Doesn't this become an issue or no?

I know one of my old schools who were not wired via coax, were broadcasting their announcements via Apple's Server's Podcasting ability. This was all done (not live) by having people just launch their iTunes at a certain time and watch the recorded announcement. Also, w/ 10.5 and 10.6 coming, Quicktime Broadcaster/Server will have improved capabilities.

Our setup was designed in a 2 room layout. The main room-video room is where we did the shooting w/ our camera, green screen, wired/wireless mics, shotgun mic, etc. Everything was then wired through the ceiling to the room across the hall and that was the control room. From there we used a computer (Mac) running Wirecast and iMovie to edit and broadcast the announcements either live or on delay. The building was wired via an injector to control any channel of our choosing and display on all TV's.

Here is an example of the equipment we ordered.... http://lions.dist57.org/faculty/faculty/kapuler/studio-grant/sg/?searchterm=kapuler

And here is an example of the final product... http://lions.dist57.org:8080/iWeb/LPTV/Welcome.html

If anyone wants a great place to order video/audio equipment let me know, I can send you the info, Roscor has done wonders for me!!!

One campus in our district does Video Announcements each day on USTREAM.TV. They record each daily session , then post online by embedding the daily cast on another website, so you dont have to go to USTREAM to see the announcements.

Cool use.

In our five elementary schools, 3 have a V-Brick system which sends the video signal over the Internet to classroom computers, and where there are projection devices, onto the SmartBoard. In one elementary we are using a coaxial system, and every room has a TV or more likely a SmartBoard on which to watch the morning news. The news is a mixture of student made and teacher made video, with students running the program. Both Middle Schools use coaxial systems to produce a student driven daily news program. The high school currently creates 3 news programs a week with their TV production classes, and airs them on three mornings. We did use u-Stream to start the year off with our Superintendents message to every school. It worked extremely well and recorded the event as well. Last year when David Warlick was here we u-Streamed his presentation so the audience could be expanded beyond our school.

There is a school in EPISD that records on Ustream.tv each day, embeds the recording on their website so parents can watch and archives all of them for a week at a time...
